About this image
In 1916, it was estimated that 15,000 Indian mounds had formerly existed in Wisconsin. In the early 20th century, the Wisconsin Archaeological Society surveyed every section of the state to account for the mounds. This 1916 map shows the distribution of the mounds, the majority of which were in the southern half of the state.
