After immigrating from Germany in 1846, John A. Salzer opened the Salzer Seed Company based in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1868. The company grew to be very successful, both in the U.S. and in Germany, and was known for its beautiful images of plants and gardens in Salzer's catalogue. The Wisconsin Historical Society is proud to have these colorful images in our collection!
