Product Details
The story of this pre-prohibition mug starts in Milwaukee in 1844 when Jacob Best started brewing lager beer. He named the company Empire Brewing, and later it became Best & Company. His son Phillip took over and named the company Phillip Best Company.

Phillip's daughter Maria married Frederick Pabst, a ship captain from Lake Michigan. Pabst eventually took over the brewery, naming it the Pabst Brewing Company, using a promotional slogan to tie the two names together: "He who drinks best drinks Pabst!"

Conrad Seipp Brewing Company was known for its promotional skills, and this mug is primary evidence. The phrase here, "Just a littler better than the kind you thought was BEST," is a direct competitive thrust to the brewer in Milwaukee.

Frederick Pabst and Conrad Seipp were friends. We find portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Pabst in the Seipp family scrapbooks; Pabst was an honorary pallbearer at Conrad's funeral. But business is business!

This mug is a reproduction of the historic mug produced to promote Seipp Brewing and jab at Pabst. Own it today!
