When The United States Constitution was signed by representatives of the first states in the United States of America, during the Federal Convention of 1787, it was only the beginning of what proved to be an arduous state-by-state ratification process. The Documentary History of the Ratification of the Constitution Series is a reference collection that aims to preserve the state-by-state debates about the ratification of The United States Constitution. This documentary series is a research tool of remarkable power, an unrivaled reference work for historical and legal scholars, librarians, and students of the Constitution.

This volume, Ratification of the Constitution by the States, Pennsylvania Supplemental Documents Volume 2 of 3, details the public and private ratification debates between Pennsylvania's opponents and proponents of the Constitution. Originally published on microfiche in 1976, this and the other two volumes of Pennsylvania Supplements Documents contain approximately 850 items, from newspaper pieces to memoir extras, meeting minutes and pamphlets, documents the sometimes heated debates. The present edition of the supplemental documents contains a comprehensive index as well as a more thorough and reorganized appendix of Pennsylvania items (original as well as newspaper reprintings) appearing in the six-volume series, Commentaries on the Constitution: Public and Private.

John P. Kaminski is the founder and director of The Center for the Study of the American Constitution in the History Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is director and co-editor of The Documentary History of the Ratification of the Constitution of which twenty-seven volumes have been published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. A leading scholar on Constitutional history, Kaminski has also published another twenty-six volumes on a variety of topics in the American Founding Era and is the author of the America's Founders Series.

He and Gaspare J. Saladino have been editing The Documentary History of the Ratification of the Constitution since 1970. Charles H. Schoenleber joined the staff in 1987, and Timothy D. Moore in 2010, while Jonathan M. Reid, Margaret R. Flamingo, and David P. Fields have served as co-editors for ten, nine, and six years, respectively. The three volumes of Pennsylvania supplemental documents can largely be credited to the efforts of the 1976 editorial team. Some members of that original staff are still actively contributing editors of the Ratification project.
