      Summary

Harbor City Chronicles: The People & Culture of the Apostle Islands, Bayfield Peninsula, and Chequamegon Bay relays the historical accounts of yesteryear in Bayfield, Wisconsin by masterful newspaper editors, journalists and guest columnists. After endless hours of resesarch, the author shares his notes and stories offered in a series of publishing's gathered from the archieved columns at Bayfield Heritage Association of the Baykfield Mercury of 1857, Bayfield Press of the 1870's, Bayfield County Press of 1882-1916 and the Bayfield Progress from 1907-1927.

From those magical columns, printed stories and notes describing the golden age of pioneer men and women living in Bayfield, the "Harbor City" and Chequamegon Bay district of the New Wisconsin come to life.

Legends, lore and facts are transcibed verbatim for the bookworms with a history detective-like nature. Bayfield Penninsula's earliest commercial and sport fishing industry, timber and sawmill industry, brownstone quarrying, early tourism with holstelries, railroads, agriculture, the fruit and berry industry on the Bayfield Ridge and Apostle Islands along with ships and shipwreck tragedies are brought to light. An extensive chronological time-line defines the order of major events in the region.
