Before checkout: Have ready one (1) digital copy of the image you would like us to convert to a tintype. The image should be on your computer or phone, in an easy to find location so that you can upload it here.

Image upload tips:

  • For best results, source images need to be no smaller than 2MB and no larger than 25MB
  • Colors will interpret in unexpected ways. For example, reds and yellows render very dark. Blues will render very light.
  • Images are reversed! This is true to the tintype process. See the samples, above.
  • The original image size may need to be adjusted to fit the proportions of the plate size.

The DigiType package includes:

  • Tintype image in H.H.Bennett branded photo sleeve
  • Digital copy of the tintype for your records

Notes & tips:

  • Display your tintype in a frame (no glass required), or set it directly in a small easle.
  • Our tintypes are made on flat aluminum plates. They are black on the front, the side your photograph is on, to create contrast and allow the process to work. It is burnished silver on the back.
  • Tintype photographs, by their very nature, include "character" or imperfections. These character markings, known as artifacts, are created by the materials and chemistry, and they are part of what makes each tintype unique.
  • To order additional Digitypes from different source photos, add one to your cart, and then continue shopping to add another.
  • Shipping: Allow two weeks for processing and shipping.
  • Not Refundable: This item is not returnable or refundable.

3D Tintypes for our grandchildren’s Memory Boxes
We were very pleased to see the results of our DigiType photos. We submitted 3D photos and even though the process flips them laterally, the 3D effect was just as great as the originals. We really like the holders the tintypes were placed in. These are a great addition to our grandchildren’s Memory Boxes. Looking forward to a future, safe trip back to the studio.

Great gift idea, fantastic customer service!
We purchased an online DigiType photo as a tenth anniversary for our daughter and son-in-law. The traditional gift for a tenth anniversary is “tin”, so this unique, historical photo made a perfect gift. Jenna worked tirelessly with me to select a photo that would create a beautiful TinType.  During virus times, when you are creating a piece of art online, you need a professional who will work patiently with you, and communicate effectively and efficiently through email to have all of your questions answered.  Jenna did a great job throughout the entire process.
Highly recommend H.H.Bennett Studio and Museum!

More than a photo!
In the age of sending digital photos and snap chats and videos all the time to everyone - being able to give a gift like this is something really special. It feels like a part of history, and makes it so much more than a photo. This is the image that will last. It will become part of our family history.  I can not recommend it enough!
