Presenter: Tony Burroughs
The Wisconsin Historical Society is pleased to host Tony Burroughs, an internationally known genealogist who taught genealogy at Chicago State University for fifteen years. He researched Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Johnson’s family history and consulted on the Oprah Winfrey genealogy, the Reverend Al Sharpton genealogy; African American Lives; The Real Family of Jesus, and The History Detectives. He also consulted with Ancestry.com, Chicago City Colleges, Chicago Public Schools and New York Public Schools.


He appeared with Henry Louis Gates on Oprah's Roots and African American Lives. He also appeared in Blood and Glory: The Civil War in Color (History Channel) and was the genealogist in The Real Family of Jesus (Discovery Channel).


Tony's book, Black Roots: A Beginners Guide to tracing the African American Family Tree, was number one on Essence Magazine's Best Seller List. Tony has traced his family back eight generations.

Participants will be able to ask questions. If no internet access is available to you, you may be able to participate by call-in for audio-only access.
