From the Ice Age to Indian Nations, fur trading to lead mining, pulp and paper mills to the Pabst Theater, History Just Ahead provides the text of more than 400 markers. In Kaukauna, a marker honors Hendrick Aupaumut and Jacob Konkapot, Stockbridge Indians who served in the Revolutionary War. In Brule, a marker explains that the Brule River flows in what was more than 10,000 years ago the channel of a larger river which flowed in the opposite direction and drained melting ice from glacial Lake Duluth. The receding glacier created Lake Superior and carved the valley through which the Brule River now flows.
